Our Story

How it all started...

In the Fall of 1953, a small group of people began meeting on Sunday afternoons at the home of Mrs. Lavonia Talley.  With the support of the Donelson Church of Christ, J. Roy Vaughn and Jerry Shannon Gooch canvassed the community.  J. Roy Vaughn, Herbert A. Robinson and J. M. Powell took turns preaching on Sunday afternoons while Gooch and Jim Burge led the singing.
In the spring of 1954, having outgrown the Talley home, the congregation began to worship in the abandoned Florenceville School on Arno Road.  In April 1972 the congregation moved to its current location at 4370 Murfreesboro Road.  The original building was able to seat 200 with a nursery and five classrooms.  Four additional classrooms, which also served as auditorium overflow, were constructed in 1974.  In 1976 six additional classrooms were added on the west side of the building.
During 1980 a pavilion was added to the north side of the building.  As the attendance grew, another addition was made to the south end of the auditorium and the pavilion was renovated in 1987.  With the hope of better serving the community, construction was started on a new multi-purpose facility in 1999.  By Spring 2000 this addition began to serve as four classrooms or a fellowship hall with a large kitchen.  In 2011 the old pavilion was renovated to add classrooms and an area for the youth group.
